Getting Warm & Fuzzy with Rowan yarns

Mason-Dixon Knitting Field Guide No.13

In all my excitement about the new MDK Field Guide, I remembered I have another Kaffe Fassett knitting project on the some needles… buried somewhere deep in WIP purgatory.

What is not to love about the yummy soft fuzzy color blends of the Earth Stripe Wrap? I need to unearth this ASAP.

This pattern calls for one of my all time favorite yarns, Rowan Kidsilk Haze. I’m always amazed at how something so light an airy knits up into such a warm and substantial fabric.

Are Paper Moon Photos the Original Selfie?

Long before Instagram people have been documenting their travels and activities with souvenir photo portraits. Photo studios were hugely popular attractions at state fairs and carnivals. The photos were printed on penny postcards and mailed across the country to family and friends… the original selfie.

One of the most popular backdrops, and one I’ve been obsessed with for years, was the “paper moon” which was often a cut-out crescent moon set in front of a painted backdrop with stars. Lovers, friends, pets, and families were often perched on the curve of the moon for the photo.

I am particularly fond of the ones with pets… but you knew that. You can see more Paper Moon photos on my Pinterest board.

Sounds I Love

Emmet purring when one of us stirs in the bed at night.

The dusty crystalline tinkle of a light snow on pine needles.

The very satisfied kiss my press makes when making an impression on thick cotton paper.

Trains at the end of my street. This sound never gets old.

The moment when my electric kettle just begins to boil.

This short list inspired by a post on the blog Cup of Jo. Be sure to read the comments on the post.
