Whew!

Today is my first day back at the office since before the 12th. I was already planning on taking vacation time for the in-law visit so it was welcome, as was the distraction, really.

Edna and Edsel’s visit was great, made even more fun and easier by DH’s sister Mary coming too. Mary, you are a saint.

Q: At just what age do you just say FUCKIT and buy the largest pair of sunglasses you can find?

I knew it was time for the visit to end when I was grilling burgers the last night and Edna asked, "Where’s your WIndex?"

"Under the sink, why?"

She pointed to my dog nose smudged sliding glass door and said, "I wanna clean that window."

‘Nuff said.

Today is our 9th wedding anniversary.
We had one of those quintessential Austin weddings… I really wanted to go to Vegas or have a combo yard sale/barbecue/wedding. I was already scheming up the invites…."bring some shit to sell, some meat to grill and watch us get hitched." DH would have no part of that.

We did manage to have a wedding just quirky enough to make me happy. We got married on a Friday night at the funky little duplex we were renting at the time. I made enchilada casserole, a friend made ceviche, we had cake, Mexican pastries and lots of Shiner Bock for the drinkers. The Meat Purveyors played in my carport. No one knew how to dance to bluegrass and seemed a bit surprised when the singer sang songs that dropped the f-bomb… but it was our wedding and they still are one of my favorite bands.

We had about 40 guests circling us when we exchanged vows, I kept thinking, "Light as feather, stiff as a board." I also remember thinking how lucky I was that the neighbors didn’t hang their clothes out in the front yard that day. Sweety, Id’ marry you allover again. xoxo

“In October I’ll host to witches, goblins, and a ghost.

I’ll
serve them chicken soup on toast.
Whoopy
once, whoopy twice, whoopy chicken soup with rice."

October is my favorite month of the year. It’s always one big month long celebration. In October we celebrate my husband’s birthday and our anniversary, and a couple other special dates. Also, the end of summer. I just love October! I took this photo 3 years ago in October when my sister and I were visitng our mother in New Jersey. Sadly we don’t get Fall color like this in Central Texas. My first few years living here I was so sad to be missing the change of seasons. In the past few years I have finally made Texas my home, really. Now I am able to appreciate the Fall, however brief it may be….but I can see it, smell it and hear it again. Funny how things happen when you sit still.

I am just inches from finishing Wisp and am thinking that I should start some socks instead of a lace shawl since I’ll be knitting while visiting with my In-laws soon. Easier to listen when not counting stiches. I’m also really excited that my hubbie’s sister will be joining his parents on their visit. really excited! We finished painting the guest room a buttery yellow this weekend. We have a friend building an iron bed for the room too. This room will double as my craft/sewing room so the color was important to me. I had myself convinced that it would be great a nice neutral kahki…but I couldn’t bring myself tolove any of the samples I’d smeared on the walls. I needed color, big surprise.
