A Small Windfall of Tomatoes & Knowledge

windfall-tomatoes

Assorted cherry tomatoes from Little Bluestem Farm, San Marcos, Texas.

I wish I could say these cherry tomatoes are from my own garden, but my teeny crop of four plants could never produce such a bounty as this in just one harvest. These tomatoes hail from a farm that a friend (and fellow productioneer) owns with her husband and two daughters. Shoot, I meant to oven dry these last night.

This podcast on developing a Pinterest strategy is very helpful and chockfull of  good ideas. Guest Megan Auman’s idea that Pinterest is an amazing way for a a small business to create a lifestyle magazine (for free) for their brand made perfect sense to me. I love that she suggests creating specific detailed customer profiles with names. I imagine it’s a bit like a novelist creating a character for a novel. What’s her name? Age? Favorite color? Where does she vacation? What does she wear? I know it sounds maybe a little bit creepy, but I think it would be a fun exercise if nothing else. The use of imagination and profile building appeals to me. To be 100% honest, I’m surprised by how much I liked this sharing of ideas. I don’t normally gush about podcasts about marketing strategies, but I found this one so very interesting. Click here to see Elise’s whole catalogue of podcasts… also enjoy her blog. I do.

So, THIS happened this weekend

Emmett

Meet Emmett. The last thing, and I mean the very last thing we were looking to do was look for another pet… especially with one very sick dog. But they usually find us, don’t they? This tiny nugget has a loud purr and an even louder voice. My current obsession with Outlander had me spouting off Scottish names like Dougal McTavish, McKenzie and Angus   to match his ginger coat. All of these were met with blank stares from the husband. He will never know how close he came to having to live with a cat named Jamie McKenzie Fraser…I’m that thoughtful. We were concerned about Rosoce having to deal with a pesky kitten this summer, but he is very interested in this little guy. I guess it can be his pet.

cakelove

Saturday our friends Elizabeth & Shane were married in Rochelle, Texas. It was an lovely Hill Country evening with horses running in the pasture below, barbecue and a country band. A great time was had by all.  I stamped this cake server for them.

Schwarma

Made this recipe last night…wish I’d like tripled the recipe, it was so good. I grilled it instead of roasting though. It is summer in Texas, and truth be told.. i love a little char on most things this time of year.

knitmojo

Still knitting this, and am enjoying this yarn so much. Knitting Mojo still in working order.

weavingmojo

… weaving mojo too. This warp is like a thousand times cleaner than my previous effort. I’m weaving a table runner out of cotton/linen warp and a boucle for the weft. I’m really liking the fabric that’s being created on the loom.

Dog Daze of Summer

RoscoeResting I realize it’s not quite the dog days of summer yet, but we received some very sad news about our little man, Roscoe, this weekend. He has lymphoma and the prognosis is not a good one. We are beyond sad, very sad. We will do our level best to keep him happy and comfortable until it’s time to say our final goodbyes.

He’s already responding favorably to steroids, and realize he’ll have good days and bad days. As long as he finds pleasure in eating, looking for squirrels, and rolling around in the warm grass, we will shower him with as much love as possible. He has been an absolute joy for almost 12 years. Hard to imagine our home without him. We can only hope to repay him for his gifts of joy and hilarity with a peaceful and warm exit from this world.

So now I need to figure out what’s on Roscoe’s Bucket List…
